GOALS:
South River Public Library has developed the following goals to pursue:
- To increase the comfort level and familiarity of the South River Library staff by learning more about autism so that we may better serve our patrons who are touched by autism.
- This has been difficult to schedule because of the size of the staff. Many special projects, in addition to the everyday operation of the Library, left us with little time to schedule a staff training that enough staff could attend. Our solution to this was to schedule it during our annual Staff Development Day in the Fall, which allows us to close the Library for the day and concentrate on developing new, needed skills. This year Staff Development Day is slated for Thursday, 24 September.
- To support our autistic community members and their families by developing programs aimed at this audience
- SPOOK HANDY is scheduled to perform at the South River Public Library on June 22nd at 7PM. This program met with great success and was well attended.
- Music Box Mania will be held on Thursday, 20 August @ 7PM. Kids with special needs including ASD are invited to shake, rock, and roll with Sing Along Steve as he presents his music box. Participants will choose a prop from the box, each one uniquely tied to a song that will lead into a musical revue.
- Piccirillo Sciencetelling presents POTIONS on Monday, 24 August @ 7PM
This program, offered through our Libraries and Autism grant, is geared to and open to participants with ASD and the general public. A visual mix of science and storytelling.
- To purchase resource materials to add to our collection that would be of interest to families with autistic children.
